Description: | From 7th Annual Hollyhock Festival Website: 2018 will see the 7th Annual Hollyhock Festival on July 28th. The event will be hosted at the Community Building located in Otto Mears Parks; Saguache, Colorado. This annual event is always the last Saturday in July. The lovely Hollyhock is the official flower for the Town of Saguache. Alcea rosea, Hollyhock, was one of the earliest plants brought to the New World. Originally from Asia, the plant's hardiness, drought tolerance, and soil adaptability supported its cultivation throughout the Middle East, Europe, and North American Continent. Hollyhock plants growing in our southwestern region are probably descendants of the first seeds planted in the late 1800's when the area became settled.
At this event you can enjoy refreshments before touring the town and beautiful gardens. Return to the Community Building to purchase plants, complete for door prizes, obtain information from gardeners, enjoy the art exhibits. Stay to support the contest winners for both garden and art competitions. Winners will be announced, and prizes awarded in both adult and junior categories.
