Description:

From La Junta Tribune-Democrat Cinco de Mayo Celebration Website:

The Cinco de Mayo Celebration, a community event that kicks off summer and commemorates Mexican heritage, is scheduled for Saturday, May 2. The ninth annual event will feature authentic Mexican cuisine, entertainment, a Color 5K Run/Walk, games for kids, and a dance featuring Colorado Springs '6035' band!
Sponsored by the La Junta Tribune-Democrat, the event will take place at 612 Adams Avenue, home of InspirationField, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the dance featuring '6035' will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 11:30 p.m.
The Celebration will feature Authentic Mexican cuisine, which will be served in the Commons Area of InspirationField and will also include live entertainment throughout the day, vendor booths, game booths, live and silent auctions, and a beer garden for adults.
According to Johnnie DeLeon, Chief Executive Officer of InspirationField, "We are excited about this years event and all the great entertainment and activities we have planned." He added, "We especially look forward to a new Color 5K Run/Walk that will be new to the area. We really hope the community comes to enjoy it as well as the Cinco de Mayo Softball Tournament that will be held right across the street at Veterans Field."
The funds raised during the celebration will be added to our Planned Fleet Maintenance Facility and Dream Funds. The Planned Fleet Maintenance Facility fund is established to raise money to build a facility to maintain the vehicles in the agency's growing fleet. In addition, the building will create mechanic work for those individuals seeking employment in the mechanic field. Within its current building, InspirationField provides individuals in service with day habilitation, job support, educational activities, case management services, and the necessary administrative supports. The Dream fund is established to raise money to assist staff through a bereavement grant, loans, school scholarships and philanthropy.
Additional sponsors include: The La Junta Tribune-Democrat, Steel City Behavioral Health, Woodco, Knights of Columbus, The State Bank of La Junta, Holiday Inn, Flood and Peterson, Johnnie & Mabel DeLeon, Wendy's, Great Western Bank, Walmart, La Junta Economic Development, Otero Junior College, Tri-County GM, Cinco de Mayo Softball Tournament, Wallace Oil, Colorado East Bank & Trust, and Larry and Helen Hollar.
Corporate and/or individual sponsorships are still being accepted. InspirationField is also seeking volunteers to assist with the celebration, as last year over 100 volunteers made the event a success.
