| Description: | Location: Opera Colorado Auditions by the MetropolitanOpera National Council for the Rocky Mountain Region will take place Saturdayand Sunday, January 28th and 29th, 2012. Colorado-Wyoming District Finals beginSaturday, January 28th at 9:30AM followed by the Rocky Mountain Regional Finalson Sunday, January 29th at 2:00PM.Admission is free. Patrons are welcome to pop by anytime during the auditions and stay as long as they wish. Stay for a couple of songs or all day - it's up to you. Stay for dinner after the auditions - $80 for patrons and $90 for non-members. Catering will be provided by Kevin Taylor, and the Opera Colorado Young Artists will perform. Dinner and cocktails in the Ellie Caulkins Opera House lobby - cocktails at 5PM and dinner at 6PM. The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions held itsfirst audition in 1954 in the Twin Cities. and over the past 56 years hashelped discover generations of opera talent. Approximately 100 formerparticipants in the National Council Auditions appear on the Met roster everyseason and nearly half of those are National Winners. The regional auditionsoffer participants the chance to advance to the National Finals on theMetropolitan Opera stage in March 2011 where they can compete for a $15,000prize. For all those who enter, the opportunity to perform for nationallyrecognized judges and an enthusiastic audience of opera lovers can be animportant step in their career development. Renee Fleming, Susan Graham,Frederica von Stade, Thomas Hampson, Deborah Voigt, and many other operaluminaries were winners of the Met Auditions.
